Tequilas are often quite the favored drinks in parties, this may because the quick shots can get you an instant buzz unlike any other drink out there. But some of the shots may be as high as 60% concentrated and few of the most expensive tequila might cost you a fortune.

It’s distilled from the Blue Agave flower found in and around the city of Santiago de Tequila, and as such Mexicans have been using this for centuries past, but now the USA is the leading consumer of the drink. There are currently over 500 different brands of Tequila available in the market. This should give  you a good enough idea about its demand. Some of them are quite expensive, but it can vary from anything from $10 to over $2000, ensuring that everyone from broke college kids to the elite superstars has something to enjoy.

#10. Gran Patrón Platinum – $250

This is widely hailed as one of the smoothest alcohols in the world, with a buttery finish, and a hint of citrusy sharpness. It has all of its color removed, and is extremely clear and thrice-distilled. You can also find in it the heat of a dash of black pepper.

It is said to be retrieved and distilled from high up on the Mexican hills, from volcanic ashes, and that is one of the contributing factors for its sugar content. The bottle looks classy in crystal with the name etched over it. It comes in a hand-made, smooth, curly maple wood box. It’s priced at $250.

#9.  Don Julio Real – $350

This tequila is cased in a classy bottle with a golden tint flanked by two silvery leaves, and a pine-cone etched silver bottle stopper. It exudes pure royalty and is one of the first ultra-premium tequilas to have ever been made.

Before being packaged, it is aged for 3 whole years in Oak barrel and gives off a sweet and citrusy taste along with a gentle golden hue. The aging process also contributes to the flavor of warm chocolate and a caramel like finish. Initially, it was quite a rare beauty found only in Guadalajara. But since then mass production has taken over and it can be found in markets. It’s priced at $350.

It costs $360 but is well worth it considering it belongs to one of the oldest Tequila brands — Herradura, which started tequila production way back in 1870.

They were also the first to introduce the reposed — a rested tequila. Aging it for over 4 years in a barrel, which leads to a strong aroma and a smooth texture, which gives off hints of rose, agave, and vanilla. The creamy texture works really well on the palate as well.

#7.  Tres-Quatro-Cinco – $390

Priced at $390, in accordance with the name, this is a mixture of tequilas aged at 3, 4 and 5 years. It is developed by the famous Fonseca family from Jalisco, which is the fourth generation of tequila distillers in Mexico.

This is made a 100% from the Weber Blue Agave plant. And even its bottle is completely pure hand-crafted crystal. The bottles themselves have something of a celebrity status, with only a 1000 bottles made, each of them signed by the hands of the Artist who made them, Alonso Gonzales Jr.

#6.  Rey Sol Anejo – $400

At $400 this one is a little bit of sugar and spice, coming to a nice confluence of the smooth texture of vanilla and the syrupy sweetness of caramel against the bite of spices with a savory finish.

With over a 5-year aging period, this one has so many layers of overlaying textures that every sip offers some new and unique experience. The bottle itself is a piece of art with a stoppered cork over an oval bottle made by the artist Sergio Bustamante.

#5.  Clase Azul Extra Anejo (Ultra) – $1700

This one comes in at a price of $1700 which is no surprise considering its extremely limited production — only a 100 bottles a year. The bottle itself looks hellish and that is only an inkling as to what you can expect from this exquisite drink aged for over 5 years in oak barrels.

The bottle itself is manufactured from pure platinum and silver, and embedded with 24 karat gold. It comprises 100% Tequiliana Weber Blue Agave.

#4.  1800 Coleccion – $1800

This bottle, priced at $1800, is a true collector’s piece and is the child of true patience and dedication. Its texture is produced as a result of the combination of several different blue agave vintages, and every stage in the process of its preparation right from the planting of Agave to the packaging is handled with care and precision.

It’s distilled twice, all in the finest French oak barrels, which produces its unique flavor. The bottle itself is designed from Belgian Crustal and is encased within suede and leather.

#3.  Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio – $2000

Priced at $2000 this beauty is aged for a whole decade in French Limousine Oak barrels, is made of 100% Blue Agave and has an alcoholic volume of 38%. It comes in a tall 17-inch bottle which looks sleek and cool and has 21-karat Gold letters etched on it.

However, this is a limited edition bottle, only 2000 produced in a year and a lot of them shipped to Japan, so if you have the dough to shell out on it, do it fast.

#2.  AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto – $2,800

One amongst the most expensive tequila available, these are aged for over 5 years in Port Wine barrels. It brings with them a certain sweetness which flows into the texture of the drink which is 100% Blue Agave. It’s made in Italy and is available in very limited numbers and costs $2800.

The Del Porto bottle itself is hand carved from the finest crystal and is a masterpiece in itself. During its resting period it is periodically tasted and tried, in order to ensure that it has reached just the right level of smoothness, and sometimes it may be left to age for 11 years!

#1.  Ultra-Premium Ley .925 Pasion Azteca – $225,000

At $225,000 – the most expensive tequila in the world, this might be a bit too much even for the Wealthy. The cost is so high mostly due to the bottle in which it comes rather than the tequila it holds.

It comes in three different bottles. One of them is made of White Gold and the other of the Purest Platinum held together by a central medallion of Platinum. However, the third and most expensive bottle is pure diamond encrusted and costs $1.5 million!

While some of them are still affordable, though on the more expensive side, the ones which come down at the bottom are best only dreamt of.
