Top 10 – Countries Ranked By Internet Speeds – 2018

Countries Ranked By Internet Speeds – One of the top necessities for people in this modern world is the high-speed internet. In this era of technology, the internet has become the most preferred medium of communication in day to day life. Everyone wants a high-speed internet connection, whether at home or work, to be able to carry out daily tasks and communication with ease and efficiency.

Though the global economy is highly dependent on connectivity and innovation, most countries of the world offer just the basic internet access. The one thing that truly defines one country’s superiority from another one is the internet speed and connectivity, and sadly our very own NBN plans fail to make the cut.

Top 10 Countries Ranked By Internet Speeds

If you ever wondered which countries in the world provide the fastest internet experience, here is the list of the top 10 countries ranked by internet speeds.

10. United States

As recorded in the first quarter of 2017, the average internet connection speed in the United States was 18.7 Mbps. This corresponds to a year-over-year increase of 22 percent, according to the latest report from Akamai Technologies.  This speed is fast enough to download a standard high-definition digital movie in approximately 30 minutes.

Within the country, the state of Washington D.C. has the highest internet speed of 28.1 Mbps followed by the states of Delaware at 25.2 Mbps and Massachusetts at 23.8 Mbps. Though internet connections are getting increasingly faster in the U.S, many other countries are outpacing it and the U.S stands at the 10th position in the list of top 10 countries ranked by internet speeds.

9. Denmark

Next on the list of the countries with high-speed internet connection is Denmark with an average connection speed of 20.1 Mbps. This speed is a 17 percent increase year-over-year, though slightly less than the last quarter of 2016.

Japan uses fiber optics to increase the internet speed in such a way that regardless of the internet traffic, there is no interruption in the service. A local Japanese provider, So-Net is offering 2 Gbps speed, which is the fastest commercially available service at this time.

7. Singapore

With an average internet speed of 20.3 Mbps, Singapore is the country with the greatest year-over-year increase in the internet speed in the Asia-Pacific zone with 23 percent faster connectivity in 2017 than the same time frame in 2016.

6. Finland

Finland’s culture and language are different than its neighbors but it ranks similarly in case of key economic terms with extensive visa-free access. South Korea is also one of the most aggressive nations at targeting gigabit speeds for the internet users. Its speed and connectivity are such that regardless of the connection method, it is faster on average than any other place in the world. One of the success stories of economic growth in Asia, South Korea is quite pro-business and technologically advanced.

A continually increasing demand for higher internet speed and connectivity has helped revolutionize the need for innovative technologies.
